How to get involved with recording – 2010 Year of Biodiversity
We have annual surveys and specific recording opportunities during the academic year.
Our big wildlife recording event takes place in the summer term and we want schools across Merseyside to get involved. Why not join us to celebrate the ‘International Year of Biodiversity’ this year and help to make 2010 Merseyside’s best ever year for recording wildlife. You can request your copy of our Schools’ Wildlife Recording Pack by telephoning 0151 737 4151, or emailing education@merseysidebiobank.org.uk – Free to all schools on Merseyside. The resources include information on birds, invertebrates and plants and can be used throughout the school year. If you would like to download your free copy now click here
Summer Term – Take part in our Schools’ Wildlife Recording Event – download your free education pack from the above link or telephone: 0151 737 4151 to request your free hard copy (only available to schools from Merseyside).
Spring Term – Involve your school in our Amphibian Survey and help us to find out valuable information about the amphibians found in school grounds.
Autumn Term – Get involved with a bird survey, or search through the leaf litter for invertebrates. Autumn is also a great time of year for a Spider Search
Schools can also contribute to the Mammal Atlas that has just been launched for North Merseyside and West Lancashire. We would like records of mammals that you have seen in and around your school grounds, throughout the year.
If you would like to join our mailing list to receive information about current recording opportunities, please email us: info@MerseysideBioBank.org.uk
Broadcasts updated (03/2010)
Our latest broadcast explains how to take a grid reference from an Ordnance Survey map. This is one of the most important tasks in making useful biological records. A grid reference helps us pin-point where a record was taken, so getting it right is vital!
Online Recording for Schools(03/2010)
Try our new online recording facility – School RODIS –
to teach your pupils about recording wildlife in school grounds.
Minibeast recording form (03/2010)
We have created a new online Minibeast Recording Form designed with the younger budding naturalist in mind. It’s a great way to follow up any minibeast hunts you are carrying out with youngsters and introduces the idea of making use of observations of the natural world.
2010 Distribution maps published (03/2010)
We have published distribution maps for North Merseyside BAP species. The BAP species are those which are considered to be most in need of focused conservation action in North Merseyside. These maps give an indication of how widespread (or otherwise) the species are in our area, but they also reflect the effort put into recording them.
